Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. Many people who don't know they mistakenly believe it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. Bruce was among the former dancers who shifted into acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her into the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the annual school production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the sole Canadian in the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the only Canadian.
